Heffrence Teow is the architect responsible for FRAMESCAPE Greenhouse Restaurant, the new spectacular greenhouse restaurant born in Iceland. The passion for catering, the knowledge of agriculture, the desire to create a new and compelling culinary experience: these are the elements behind the idea of Teow.
Diners have the opportunity to completely immerse themselves in the production, living a complete experience in contact with nature.
As the architect himself states:
The union of a restaurant with a greenhouse it's an act of celebrating food, especially in places like Iceland, where locally grown food is a rarity. It becomes a symbol of appreciation and increases awareness around our consumption. Additionally, by integrating the food production process “behind the scenes” as part of the visitor experience – wandering around the farm before reaching your seats – you create an engaging environment by adding context and background to the meal served at your table.
A new idea of catering
The close relationship between farms and restaurants is brought here to its highest levels.
There is no longer any "space of separation" between the two environments, which in the FRAMESCAPE Greenhouse Restaurant become one.
To improve the diners' experience and create an immersive journey to discover the natural beauty of Iceland, Teow has added some special details (see more , promising ).
By breaking down the structure into several separate environments, it allows visitors to admire every element of the production, without risking overlap. From agriculture we move on to catering, passing through a spectacle of different panoramas.
External stimuli are reduced to a minimum, focusing guests' attention only on specific attractions.
In particular, importance is given to Lake Mývatn, Hverfjall and the Northern Lights, which color the surroundings.
Just as the farm allows us to better understand the food we eat, the 'reduction' of what surrounds us allows us to better witness the beauty of nature, helping us increase awareness and gratitude for what we consume.'
The new environmentally friendly greenhouse restaurant
The restaurant has a simple rectangular shape, deliberately "bare".
The interior is characterized by the presence of winding paths, which guide individual visitors. There are four main spaces: The Cube (Entrance), The Cone (Multipurpose space), The Cuboid (Restaurant) and The Tetrahedron (Lounge Bar).
Each area focuses on a specific element, so as to give the entire environment the right importance.
The architect's words, which have accompanied us from the beginning, serve to conclude this interesting journey.
This is his vision of the project, his opinion on the shape chosen for the creation of the FRAMESCAPE restaurant greenhouse.
Instead of replicating the natural environment, the structure integrates and highlights its features by adopting basic geometries to eliminate unnecessary attention while serving as a backdrop that frames views and elevates the immersive atmosphere: a round opening frames the featureless sky ; a triangular opening dramatizes the mountainous landscape and Hverfjall; a rectangular portal captures the panoramic view of the shimmering Lake Mývatn and the distant plain, reflecting it up close.
