Dubai it really is the land of wonders. The country is teeming with news and captivating the world with all sorts of news, come on flying taxis ai turbine-skyscrapers. To update the count, a nail salon in Dubai offers a manicure that transforms nails into... Smart Nail.
Lanour Beauty Lounge, the salon located inside the Dubai World Trade Center adds the ability to store and transmit data to the fingers.
The latest nail art trend
The futuristic manicure involves placing a microchip right on top of the nail. The microchip is then covered and fixed with a layer of nail polish (colour of your choice). What is more advanced about a Smart Nail than a traditional nail?
According to the Lanour Beauty Lounge, the chip the Smart nail uses Near Field Communication (NFC), the well-known short-range wireless technology that makes smartphones, tablets, wearables, payment cards and other devices even smarter. In other words, with a simple touch of the "microchipped" nail, the perfectly manicured finger will transfer personal data such as your WhatsApp details, a digital business card or your Instagram account in seconds.
Smart nail: privacy and security? All ok, they say.
The Smart nail chip would be completely safe as a passive device. This means it can't be tracked and can only be read within 1-2cm, so there's no fear of data being hacked or stolen, presumably.
Obviously, the ability to store data in the Smart nail chip is quite small for now. However, the CEO Nour Nakarem hopes that with technological advances this idea can be developed to the point where people can tap to pay their bills, share menus and circulate information.
Not a brand new fashion, it must be said. There are several Smart nails for sale around various sites, but this is the first salon in the world to incorporate them into its regular manicure services. The Smart Nail starts at only AED 250 (about 60 euros) for the first application, which lasts up to three weeks.
