#Yahoo now belongs to the past. The CEO of Yahoo !, #Marissa Mayer, will leave the company upon closing of the sale of the internet business to Verizon Communications. Yahoo will thus give way to Alibaba Group Holding and Yahoo! Japan, and will change its name to Altaba to reduce its board of directors to five members.
Yahoo recently struck a deal to sell the Web business to Verizon in a $ 5 billion transaction, though there was no shortage of problems (see Yahoo mail network hacker attacks). The New York Post had even mentioned a request for a discount from a billion dollars advanced by Verizon following the data theft.
After 23 years from its foundation, therefore, Yahoo will close its doors. Verizon bought pretty much everything: the advertising business, the sites, the mobile applications and the email. The most sensational farewell is from Marissa, CEO since July 2012, who came to Yahoo from Google. Her in Yahoo has been a real failure: many have criticized her reckless management of her, and especially the purchase of Tumblr in 2013 (a company whose value has fallen by 230 million euros over a three-year period).
