In the beginning it was the Segway: an individual system designed to radically transform the approach that passengers have with their means of transport. It was the beginning of a change that still today has not fully shown all its opportunities: perhaps it will do so with Solowheel?
A new step in the direction of an individual, clean and light means of transport is that represented by Solowheel. Things? Simple. It is a 'monowheel' to be ridden standing, equipped with gyroscopes and stabilizers capable of keeping the passenger in perfect balance.
Solowheel, “samba” on a single wheel
It seems to be the most intelligent solution, the right compromise between the real need and the convenience of use: imagine a vehicle that weighs only 10kg (fits in a backpack), with a range of 20km (perfect for those who live in historic centers and works not far from home, or for those who have to deal with mixed road-subway routes every day).
The 'peak' speed is 20 kilometers per hour, more than enough to move comfortably, and its 1000 Watt electric motor guarantees sufficient autonomy (collecting energy from braking and descents, therefore with the possibility of expanding the range of action) loading in just 45 minutes.
Strengths – Rather than looking for a 'total' solution which is frankly impossible to find (an individual vehicle cannot have everything: absolute comfort, wide range of action, reduced weight, low impact on the atmosphere, cost-effectiveness) Inventist, the Solowheel manufacturing company, has preferred to develop a product 'tailored' to a typical user figure.
It is an easy to use and learn vehicle, to brake just put one foot on the ground, so to speak. As with skateboarding.
November 2022 updates. The first Solowheel model was marketed from April 2011, at the indicative price of €1200. Today the options have become decidedly more accessible and varied (just take a ride on the Official site), but I wouldn't feel like saying that this means of transport has really reached the masses. You?
