WheatAn Israeli machine vision company has joined forces with retail company Netto on a hybrid store with no cashier in Munich, Germany.
Trigo is a company founded by brothers Michael and Daniel Gabay in 2018. Trigo transforms ordinary supermarkets into fully autonomous or hybrid digital stores with AI technology and ceiling-mounted cameras. Things are progressing quickly, and funding is pouring in: the two brothers have already raised 104 million dollars.
How the shop works without queues and cashiers
The technology is quite easy to use. Customers use an app to scan a QR code when they enter the store, then make their purchases. Trigo adds products to their shopping list as they pick them up, thanks to an advanced retail automation platform. The app uses a host of ceiling-mounted cameras to identify items with exceptional accuracy.
How accurate?
To be clear, the system detects the purchase of a single fruit by updating the weight, and obviously subtracts the items from the list with the same speed.
And once at the checkout? Oh, yeah. No speakers. When they're done shopping, customers simply leave the store, without waiting in line for payments. The products are automatically debited from their account. To ensure legal tobacco and alcohol use, Trigo has an age verification process that customers must pass when using the application for the first time. No biometric system, no facial recognition.
An intermediate step
Netto belongs to one of the largest food chains in the world, and in Germany alone it has over 4.000 stores. This new partnership with Trigo creates Netto's first cashless hybrid store and fits perfectly with a planet where everyone tries to limit their daily social contacts. For now, the shop model is hybrid: whoever wants to can still use the tills, but the direction taken seems… clear.
Trigo works with some of the biggest names in the retail industry. We are particularly excited to partner with Netto to open the world's first hybrid and contactless discount store. The public will enjoy competitive discount prices and a fantastic shopping experience.
