ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) have helped motorists navigate the busiest roads in the world.
Their reliable sensors allow the cars to "self-stop", avoiding impact with someone/something. These safety systems were designed to become the third eye of drivers, helping them to notice everything that escapes their gaze.
Through a series of signals, ADAS warns the car owner of the presence of an obstacle, ensuring that he prepares in time.
Lately, the great diffusion of e-bikes, electronic bicycles, has led companies to test safety systems on two wheels as well.
The producers cater to cyclists, who need assistance to avoid problems and accidents.
The new safety systems for e-bikes
The idea of equipping bicycles with an advanced assistance system has gained the favor of some leading companies in the sector.
Three in particular have developed ambitious projects, hoping to offer cyclists the right protection. We are talking about Terranet, Streetlogic and Boreal Bikes, three important brands that know how to recognize a winning idea.
The main objective is to cover any blind spots, ensuring drivers have the highest possible level of visibility. Where the human eye cannot reach, here it intervenes artificial intelligence, the famous AI.
Let's look at the proposals of the three brands in more detail, so as to better understand what they are doing and what are the prospects for the future.
ADAS for e-bikes: Blinc Bike (Terranet)
The first proposal comes from the Terranet manufacturer, which has recently presented the model Blinc Bike.
The company focused above all on the "problem" of reversing, designing a monitoring system capable of offering a 180-degree view.
A small camera is attached under the saddle of the bike, and records what happens behind the cyclist. When an obstacle appears, the camera-sensor sends a warning signal to the driver, who receives it on the front display positioned in the handlebar area.
The transmission of information is almost immediate, so that the cyclist has time to react and avoid problems of any kind.
An intelligent rear light will then indicate to the cyclist what is the right action to take; if you need to move, brake or stop.
ADAS for e-bikes: Streetlogic
We then move on to the second intelligent bicycle, proposed by the company Streetlogic.
The vision of this e-bike is complete at 360 degrees. The developers were able to come up with a set of devices capable of transmitting immediate information about what is happening behind the bike, on its sides and in front.
Warning notifications are sent to the heads-up display on the handlebar, or via audio through a built-in speaker.
The security camera, rather similar to that of Blinc Bike, is capable of recording all collisions, and the videos are immediately accessible via the associated app.
Everything that happens can be seen through the smartphone, saving time and adding an extra safety stage.
ADAS for e-bikes: Holoscene
We end with the startup Boreal Bikes, which offers the new Holoscene X bicycle.
Their e-bike uses ADAS technology to achieve “collision prevention and blind spot detection with interactive speed regulation and road block warnings”.
To do this, the developers have equipped the bike with a series of sensors and cameras, aimed at increasing and improving the cyclist's visibility.
Unfortunately, we still don't know the details of Boreal Bikes' production, which has remained in the shadows compared to other companies. We know that the research is continuing, and that it aims to reach very high levels.
