In the panorama of electric two-wheelers there is something new that can shake up the market: the DAB 1α, an electric motorcycle that overturns clichés with its total absence of gears and clutch. The creation of DAB Motors, already in production in France, promises to revolutionize the way of conceiving electric motorbikes by combining lightness, power and a unique design that winks at the past.
A concentrate of innovation
The DAB 1α stands out in the electric motorcycle market for a series of cutting-edge features. First of all, as mentioned, the absence of gears and clutch eliminates one of the main problems that afflict motorcyclists: gearbox failures. This technical choice not only simplifies maintenance, but also makes the driving experience smoother and more pleasant.
Another strong point of the DAB 1α is its battery: totally recyclable, removable, repairable. A virtuous example that follows a passage to new recycling technologies which will make the electric two- and four-wheeled vehicle increasingly preferable to the fossil one.
Not just clutch: lightness and power
Despite the presence of the battery, the DAB 1α maintains a low weight of only 125 kg (almost the lightest in its category, except rare exceptions). Agile and easy to handle both in the city and on extra-urban roads. This lightness, combined with a power that allows it to reach 130 km/h, makes the DAB 1α an electric motorcycle capable of satisfying the needs of a wide range of users.
The recharge? Via a normal domestic socket or a type 2 charging column, and even daily trips in urban areas are served.
The design: I can't do it, too many memories
Yes, ok clutch and gears. Yes, lightness is ok, but take a look at the design: the DAB 1α stands out for an original approach that I would define as "techno-nostalgic". The controls, inspired by retro video game controllers from the 2000s, really add a little extra flair. That blue "Nitro" button is too reminiscent of the famous "Need for Speed": adrenaline in packs of 15, indeed.
Other details? The rear footrests reminiscent of the world of motocross and the golden numbered plate on the handlebars. Small things that really get noticed by an advertiser obsessed with details.
We won't miss the clutch
Initial production of the DAB 1α will be limited to just 400 units. Prudence or refinement? I'll investigate. Available in white and grey, it comes away with quite a bit of customization: other luxury micro details, such as the adjustable gold suspension developed in collaboration with Paioli and the forged carbon components made from recycled Airbus carbon fibre.
What to say? With a starting price of €14.900, the DAB 1α is positioned at the high end of the electric motorcycle market. With 36 or 48 month financing options available in Europe, it becomes an accessible investment for those who want to embrace the future of two-wheeled mobility without compromising on style, performance and innovation.
Clutch, to put it briefly, will not be missed.
