“Welcome to the future of pavement,” oonee declares, introducing its smart, modular and customizable “mini” pod for safe bicycle parking.
There is always a car, there is always a parking space: they dominate the city streets, but what about bikes? The founders of Oonee they tried to find space, and they came up with a great idea.
10 bikes in one parking space
The company's adventure began when the founder Shabazz Stuart suffered the theft of three bicycles in 5 years and realized that safe bicycle parking was a crucial aspect of micro-mobility and infrastructure in cities.
Despite this obvious need, the vast majority of cyclists do not have access to safe, smart or attractive parking. This is what drove the Oonee team to introduce “Mini”, a pod designed to provide up to 10 secure bike spaces that take up just one parking space.
How Oonee Mini is made, the bike garage in one parking space
Oonee mini has been designed with hundreds of technological and design innovations to make life easier for cyclists while respecting the beauty of the places. The development team worked hard to gather feedback from cyclists, pedestrians, public space managers and even school-age children.
Each mini features a customizable skin that can be tuned to match the local architecture and conditions of each neighborhood.
The goal of this scalable solution is to form a network of micro public bike garages.
A little safe place
The technical and operational characteristics of oonee mini include, as mentioned, many technologies condensed into the space of a single parking space.
First of all one intelligent access technology, which allows unlocking with a magnetic key or smartphone. Internal lighting allows cyclists to find their bike even at night. A air pump provides free and easy air, with hydraulic sliding doors offering easy automated opening and closing.
The possibility of installing a green roof or a small garden of aromatic plants also redefines the concept of street furniture. More useful spaces that offer an alternative to the car, giving the parking space a second life.
Next step
Oonee hopes its network of smart infrastructure that supports micro-mobility will fundamentally change the landscape of the streets.
