Yes, we all know the current alternative: open a delivery app and have the food brought home. Well, it's not the same. And once things like the one developed by Moley Robotics are around, they will never be the same again. We will know it as the era of robotic cooking.
The robotic kitchen
The British company Moley Robotics claims to have produced the first robotic kitchen in the world. A “skillful robot integrated into a luxury kitchen, preparing hot and cold meals from scratch at the touch of a button.”
How does it work? The appearance is vaguely similar to that of a Toyota prototype last October (in that case the arms were hanging from the ceiling). In the case of Moley Robotics' robotic kitchen, the two robotic arms start from the ground and can realistically mimic the movements of human hands during meal preparation.
This means that the robot kitchen can retrieve the ingredients from the smart refrigerator. It can adjust the hob temperature, use the sink to fill pots and pour, mix and serve just like a human cook would.
“The robot also cleans itself, without complaining!” states a press release for the new product.
Too good to be true?
If you are thinking so too, know that Moley Robotics has also released a video of the results of its robotic kitchen. Impressive, also because making such a thing must not have been easy at all.
It took the work of a team of 100 engineers, designers and three award-winning chefs. Moley Robotics states that “the system does not cook like a machine, but captures human abilities and emulates them. “
How does the robotic kitchen work?
The kitchen uses a combination of sensors and optical cameras to carry out its tasks and also has an optical system that can spot dropped food and clean it before and after cooking. For now, the system can produce 30 dishes developed by the world's leading chefs, but new dishes are continually added. The company aims to soon have a digital menu with over 5000 choices. Sure, for 275000 euros (this is its price) you can buy a house, but the company swears it already has the first 1000 buyers.
Moley Robotics' robotic kitchen also comes with an innovative recipe creation software tool that allows users to program their own favorite recipes. When everything is missing, considering the fact that it uses the same pots, it is turned off and used in its place.
