If you thought that technology couldn't surprise you again, you were very wrong. Here is MouthPad, a device that acts as a mouse, and allows you to control computers and electronic gadgets simply by using your mouth. Born within the prestigious MIT, this technological jewel promises to change the way we interact with our devices.
How does it work?
This sort of “oral mouse” is a device made from 3D printed dental resin, waterproof and customizable to fit perfectly in the user's mouth. Inside there is a microprocessor, a battery, a Bluetooth module and a flexible circuit board with integrated pressure sensors.
Once worn, the MouthPad covers the user's upper teeth and palate. Thanks to a machine learning algorithm, the device detects the position and pressure of the tongue and transforms them into commands for smartphones, laptops or other devices connected via Bluetooth. All of this, clearly, without compromising the ability to speak.
Who can this special mouse be useful to?
MouthPad is designed primarily for those who cannot use their hands, but we bet it will also come in handy for those who want to take multitasking to a new level? I don't know, maybe using your hands to do a task and using this oral mouse at the same time. The device is compatible with iOS, Android, Windows, Mac and Linux operating systems. From the Official site of the project I learn that with a charge of only two hours, the battery guarantees more than five hours of use.
For now, MouthPad is not yet available on the market, but you can sign up for the waiting list on the company's website. Who knows how much it will cost in the end. As soon as I know something about it, you will be the first to know: a good rant and you will see another post come out of my mouth. Literally.
