An ebike startup called Mokwheel Bikes launched on Indiegogo a fatbike called Basalt, with a heavy battery and an inverter that allow it to function even as a small mobile power station.
The Basalt boasts a 750W rear hub motor (1.100W maximum power) that can tackle gradients of 25% and support pedal assist up to 45 kilometers per hour (28 mph). The 7-speed gearbox makes driving very flexible, while (I don't know if it would be legal in Italy) you can rest your legs thanks to the accelerator knob.
Fat bikes, fat power
A 960 Wh (48 V, 20 Ah) battery is mounted inside the frame for a range of up to 128 kilometers (80 miles). And let's get to the 'main course': the fatbike is equipped with a power inverter that can be fixed to the bike using a hard case. This addition allows you to supply power to all types of mobile gadgets via the USB-C and USB Type-A ports, as well as allowing the use of regular electrical outlets.
“Yes,” you ask as always, “but how much energy can it provide”?
You certainly don't expect it to make you experience off-grid days, do you? Mokwheel reckons its capabilities could translate into roughly 75 minutes of use for a 550W coffee maker. Is that enough? No. If you want, 45 minutes of 900W electric barbecue, 15 hours of running a 60W mini fridge, 70 hours of a 5W light or 13 hours of fun watching a 60W TV.
Finally, the Basalt inverter also allows you to recharge the fatbike battery using solar panels (optional or to be purchased on our own).
Take away the energy, put in the energy
Basalt rides on 26-inch wheels wrapped in wide (4-inch) puncture-resistant, all-terrain tires. Its 6061 aluminum frame can support a maximum payload of 180kg (400lbs) and lots of accessories, which Mokwheel sells online on its site.
The crowdfunding campaign launched on Indiegogo allows us to support a production that has already started: the prices? In line with similar models, but without "energy" functions. It starts from around 1800 euros.
