Passionate and nostalgic for the legendary Osvaldo Cavandoli and his "line", a trait capable of telling exciting stories, know that in tangible reality you could one day find yourself interacting with an interface that reminds you of your favorite. The MIT Media Lab is developing a “shapeshifting” interface that has a linear shape. An interactive snake, if you will. A line, geometrically speaking.
Because it's interesting
The line has billions of interesting features from the point of interactive design. The possibility of converting abstractness into forms of complete meaning, for example. The definition of margins or contours. The ability to adapt to the surrounding environment. Using many of these aspects, the group thus presented some of the possible applications with a hypothetical interface capable of changing its shape depending on the functions and situations.
LineForm, this is the name of the project, was born as a "line": a series of actuators capable of moving together or independently create different shapes. LineForm can become a "smart bracelet". A phone equipped with systems that provide feedback in an intelligent and sensorial way. The rest is history to see: the video will make you understand better than many words :)
