Humane, the startup founded by former Apple executives, unveiled his device that could redefine the concept of wearable. Far from the "classic" smartwatches or earphones, Ai Pin combines artificial intelligence, projectors and cameras in an elegant and innovative design.
Presented at Paris Fashion Week, this device promises to wear AI directly on our clothes (a bit like the "brooch" from the Star Strek series), offering functionality that goes beyond normal interaction with a screen.
The Ai Pin isn't just another tech gadget to add to the growing list of wearable devices. It is an experience, a bridge between the digital world and our physical environment that aims for a more natural and intuitive interaction.
A fashionable debut
Humane's choice to unveil the Ai Pin during a fashion show in Paris was no coincidence. Naomi Campbell , a fashion icon, was the first person outside the company to wear the device in public. A move that underlined the importance of design and aesthetics for Humane, proving that technology can be both functional and trendy.
The Ai Pin (which I presented to you at the debut of the project, in this article) is described by Humane as a “screenless” device, built entirely for AI. Powered by an advanced Snapdragon platform Qualcomm, the Ai Pin is equipped with a mini-projector that replaces the smartphone screen.
But that's not all: it is also equipped with a camera and a speaker. These features allow the user to perform functions such as AI-powered optical recognition. But what's really impressive is Humane's privacy-first approach. The Ai Pin does not have a wake word, meaning it is not always listening, providing greater security and privacy for users.
Ai Pin, beyond the demo
During Ted Talk in May, Humane co-founder, Imran chaudhri, who had previously worked on the iPhone's user interface, showed off some of the capabilities of the Ai Pin. Although the device was largely hidden, Chaudhri demonstrated a number of futuristic features, such as the ability to answer a call by projecting details onto his hand. He also showed off his ability to translate English into French using AI translation, and all in Chaudhri's voice.
Despite the excitement, there are still many unanswered questions about the Ai Pin. How do you connect to the internet? What is the real advantage compared to a traditional smartphone? And how exactly do all these advanced features work? We are rightly skeptical when faced with technological demonstrations that are too good to be true. However, with the full presentation scheduled for November 9th, we won't have to wait long to have all the answers.
A vision of the future
Humane's Ai Pin could represent a vision of the future of wearable devices. In a world where we are constantly connected and bombarded with notifications and information, a device like the Ai Pin could offer a more natural and immersive user experience.
It could also mark the beginning of a new era in which fashion and technology blend harmoniously, creating products that are both beautiful and functional. We await the official presentation to give you more details.
