Today, Milan was the protagonist of the announcement of the winners of the Italian edition of the James Dyson Award 2023. This prestigious recognition highlighted three revolutionary projects: a system for the production of myoelectric prostheses, a device to combat drought and a mechanism for make information more accessible to the blind. Each of these projects not only demonstrates incredible ingenuity and innovation, but also represents a clear vision of how technology can be used to address some of the most pressing challenges of our time.
D-Pulp: The revolution in prosthesis production
D-Pulp, created by Simone Perini, emerges as the winner of the Italian edition of the James Dyson Award 2023. This digital manufacturing system aims to revolutionize the manufacturing process of myoelectric prostheses for upper limbs. By adopting new technologies, D-Pulp promises to cut time and costs in half, offering lighter and more sustainable customizable materials. This not only improves efficiency, but also reduces the risk of injury when manually processing the artificial arm.
B-Flos: Innovation against drought
Second place was taken by B-Flos, a project that addresses one of the most serious challenges of our time: drought. This biomimetic device not only collects water from precipitation, but also takes advantage of the condensation process, especially in places with high humidity. This solution could be a boon for agricultural areas in remote or rural locations, where drought is a significant barrier to survival.
Braille-Fly: Making information accessible to all
Braille-FlyThe project Stefano Stradiotti, Iacopo Curti, Alessandro Buldini e Federico Pietro Colleoni which took third place, aims to make information accessible to everyone, regardless of their visual abilities. This mechatronic device allows visually impaired people to read texts in real time through Braille characters. The goal is to reduce the production costs of Braille displays and make them available in public spaces, ensuring that information is always accessible to everyone.
The James Dyson Award: A platform for innovation
