Ten years of meticulous research and laborious development for an announced "return". Euro Airship has unveiled plans for a solar-powered airship. No fossil fuels and no emissions for a trip around the world without stopping.
The airship of tomorrow: a dream in the sunlight
Euro Airship is no stranger to the world of innovation (and he's not the only one), but with the launch of its Solar Airship One project, the company is truly pushing the boundaries of what's possible. An airship powered solely by solar energy has remarkable prospects.
But what does all this mean in practical terms? Well, in 2026, if all goes according to plan, Solar Airship One will embark on an epic journey. It will cover more than 40.000 km in just 20 days. And she will do so following a trajectory close to the equator, flying at an average altitude of 6.000 meters. It will be a record-breaking journey, in every sense.
The most impressive factor about Solar Airship One is, of course, its ability to use solar energy as its sole power source. This means that as the airship flies, its solar cells will capture the sun's energy and convert it into electricity. And the electricity will power the airship's engines, allowing it to fly non-stop.
Reloaded airship
All the characteristics of the airship respond to a specific need of the engineers. Which? That of "getting involved" with a means of transport introduced too early (an immature technology for the time) and too soon abandoned.
Green propulsion at its best
The commercial airship that is about to arrive promises to be a green giant of the sky, with a 80% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions compared to traditional aircraft.
The new arrival will have a solid structure and a double-layer reinforced casing. Measures that ensure protection against external pressures and optimal regulation of the internal temperature. The result? It will be able to fly in any weather condition, significantly increasing its operational efficiency.
Maneuverability and safety
Thanks to 15 separate and individually operated gas compartments, this airship has a quick response like a cat. Its innovative design allows it to carry out early maneuvers, bypassing the moments of inertia typical of helium-filled aircraft, and responding promptly to meteorological challenges.
With two ballast systems (a traditional one based on water and an innovative one based on compressed air) Solar Airship One can operate in total autonomy, without depending on specific external infrastructures. In other words: no huge infrastructure on the ground. For regular stops, a simple rotating platform located on a body of water is enough. Autonomy and simplicity, all in one.
2 years go by quickly
With the right vision and determination, the sky is no longer the limit for The Airship: a vehicle that had too short a life (it seems incredible that 10.000 paying passengers crossed the Atlantic at the time). With Solar Airship One, the company has laid the foundation for a future where sustainable flight is not only possible, but the norm.
