If you think of a wind farm, your mind immediately goes to enormous steel structures, lying on the side of the highway or dominating vast fields. But there is a Danish company, Kitex, which has decided to dispel this cliché: in 2021 it presented the Wind Catcher, a portable and lightweight mini wind turbine.
Today, the Wind Catcher is no longer just an idea but a commercial reality, ready to conquer outdoor lovers.
Shoulder wind
Imagine being on top of a hill, in the middle of nature, and having the ability to charge your devices using only the power of the wind. You enjoy the beauty of breathtaking views, always stay connected and take advantage of clean and renewable energy.
Does the idea tickle you? With its 12 kg weight and extreme ease of assembly, this portable wind power deal presents itself as a rather interesting solution in the renewable energy panorama.
Despite its small size, Wind Catcher does not give up power: it can power devices of various kinds, from laptops to camping refrigerators, and can even charge portable el stations or batteries. With a fundamental difference compared to solar panels: it also works at night.
Portable wind: technically speaking
Some technical data on the Wind Catcher. The device does not disappoint: 600W with a wind speed of 6 m/s, and operates in a speed range between 3 and 15 m/s, withstanding gusts of up to 25 m/s. Despite the weight of only 12 kg, including anchors and tower, the device can offer a programmable output voltage between 12 and 36 V.
This portable wind turbine can operate in adverse weather conditions ensuring stable and reliable energy production, thanks to its IP54 classification for resistance to rain and its noise level limited to 55dB at 6 metres.
The only downside is the price. Wind Catcher is available for pre-order on the official website at the modest (so to speak) price of €1.995. If I haven't dissuaded you yet, know this on the KickStarter page the first contributors to the campaign are still awaiting deliveries.
When they say "fast as the wind".
