The introduction of PEELSPHERE changes the cards on the table of the textile industry, bringing novelty and freshness.
Youyang Song, a brilliant designer from Berlin, recently presented to the world his new material, created through the use of waste products.
It's called PEELSPHERE, and it's designed to completely replace leather (both real and synthetic).
From fruit scraps to… practically everything
This material, completely biodegradable, is obtained by combining fruit waste and seaweed. The starting products are transformed and modified through the use of advanced materials engineering.
The new Youyang Song fabric is perfect from various points of view, aesthetically pleasing and extremely versatile, capable of adapting to the needs of producers.
The designer's goal is to inspire the textile world and lead it to produce sustainable and environmentally friendly materials, without giving up beauty.
How PEELSPHERE was born
The PEELSPHERE material was born observing the products of nature and their natural life cycle. In particular, Youyang Song focused on banana peels and on seaweed. It has created a malleable and waterproof fabric, which can be worked without any kind of problem.
Peelsphere can become soft where needed, and harden where a protective case needs to be built instead. We are therefore talking about a bio-innovative material, which combines design, material science and sustainability.
Currently, PEELSPHERE has won the German sustainability award , prize all innovate of the oxford foundry and the k-generation award of the kering group.
Youyang Song was also nominated for ein & zwanzig world's design talents 2019 by the German Design Council and the Re-FREAM program.
