Dependence on screens

READ IN:

Let's be honest: We all spend a lot, too time on the screens of our phones. This is why a company is offering $ 2.400 (around € 2000) to anyone who is “brave” enough to stay off the screen for a whole day.

"If you have the desire to ditch your devices for a day but need to get paid to do so, this is the perfect opportunity for you," say the proponents of the initiative called Digital Detox 2021. "If it sounds too easy, you're probably not the one who needs a detox: invite your addicted friends and family from the screens of smartphones and tablets."

And do you have all the right characteristics to test yourself?

If you think you are up to the challenge, apply on the initiative's website by March 26, 2021 at 00:21 (Italian time). Keep in mind that the complete list of forbidden elements could make even the most detached one nervous. The list includes cell phones, televisions, gaming devices, computers and laptops, smart watches and other wearable devices, and smart home devices such as Amazon Alexa. Even automatic vacuum cleaners like the Roomba.

Dependence on screens

Challenge is a fun way to raise awareness of a growing and persistent problem of the digital age: our over-reliance and addiction to screens. Those of phones, of course, but also of all the other (increasingly numerous) digital devices.

Un recent survey found that the 56,4% some people consider themselves "a little" (a little) dependent on their phone. Typical response from those who ignore the problem. According to a study published in the journal addictive behaviors, an excessive dependence screens have an impact on our brains very similar to that of drug use. There is also some evidence to suggest that the screens stand changing children's brains in ways that scientists do not yet fully understand.

This is why, even if you are not chosen for the 2000 euro, it might be a good idea to participate anyway.

Take a break from the screens. Don't worry, Futuroprossimo will be here waiting for you when you return.
