Samsung prepares for landing: flexible screens on the home straight

Here we are: after years of development and tons of false previews on sites around the world, Samsung is ready to bring to market a new range of smartphones with flexible screens. “Mobile phones with flexible and almost indestructible screens that can be rotated, folded and put in your pocket or wallet” (for this last sentence I smile: is it still early?).

The keystone in this new technology is the use of OLED screens (organic light emitting diodes), very thin and compatible with a flexible support such as plastic or a metal sheet. The Korean company is not the only one to have invested heavily in the search for flexible OLED-based screens: Sony and LG are rapidly advancing and have developed first, interesting prototypes.

The house of the Galaxy S3 won the gold rush by promising, first of all, a launch date for this technology: in the first half of 2013, as reported by an authoritative source (the WSJournal).

Hey: dates seem compatible with the release of the flagship phone - the Galaxy s4 could be the next 'foldable' device in history.
