If you or your coworkers have a job that requires standing for extended periods of time, Japanese startup Archelis may have the device for you.
ArchelisFX, whose name sounds more or less like “walking chair” in Japanese, is a wearable exoskeleton. A sort of standing chair just presented at CES2021, the technology and gadget show which this year is taking place in virtual form due to the pandemic.
ArchelisFX is an exoskeleton that is worn on the legs with straps, and disperses the user's body weight.
Standing while sitting is easier
A human, non-robotic exoskeleton: a wearable mechanical device that makes standing less tiring and can provide pain relief in the legs and back.
The categories that need to stand up for work and who would benefit from these exoskeletons? Many. Workers, surgeons, teachers, and many others who need to be on their feet for many hours at a time, the company says.
Flexibility of all kinds
“ArchelisFX allows people to walk or move while wearing it. And people can easily wear this chair to stand, regardless of their body shape or size,” he said Katsuhiko Saho, responsible for the business development of this Archelis mechanical exoskeleton.
All very beautiful. I must say, however, mine is a general assessment for this CES2021 which is truly demonstrating the validity of the saying "necessity is the wit".
However, in the case of Archelis and the standing chair there are some sore points.
Where does this sad music come from? Could it be that the exoskeleton of this type is seen almost as a "crutch" and has a sad appeal compared to a robotic exoskeleton? It will be the first phase of startup, it will be that investments in research must be recovered, it will be whatever you want. The fact is that the company said that the product (ArchelisFX is expected to be launched this year) will be priced around $5.000, over 4100 euros.
