In the post-pandemic era, telemedicine is gaining ground, but there has always been a limit: the lack of in-depth remote health checks. Taking advantage of the showcase offered by CES2024, Withings presented BeamO, an innovative all in one health monitoring device. This tool combines the functionality of an ECG, oximeter, stethoscope and thermometer, offering four checkups, a small complete picture of your heart and lung health right from home.
Innovation and Multifunctionality
BeamO bypasses wearable devices (still not widespread, especially among the elderly population) and aims to directly change the basic tools of "home diagnostics". From the old thermometer, an essential tool like BeamO will allow you to measure on demand the fundamental vital parameters that are usually checked during medical visits. As mentioned, this gadget was designed to perform a complete checkup of body temperature, heart and lung health in less than a minute. Its features include:
- Photoplethysmography and Electrodes: Thanks to photoplethysmography (PPG) and electrodes, the device is capable of simultaneously reading blood oxygenation (SpO2) and heart rate, as well as conducting a medical-grade ECG.
- Temperature measurement: BeamO takes accurate and stable body temperature readings via a non-invasive scan of the temporal artery.
- Digital Stethoscope: Incorporates a state-of-the-art digital stethoscope to capture acoustic sound waves from the chest or back.
The inevitable and omnipresent companion app
All data collected by BeamO is synced to the Withings app, which supports tracking and alerting, as well as logging drug interactions. The app allows users to view their complete checkup history, along with interpretations and practical advice. You can also upload and share your family medical history.
BeamO, future checkup
Withings aims to launch the device in June 2024 at a price of $249. Many trends can be seen in the details: this BeamO is more than a simple device: it is a measure of how diagnostic and personal care tools want to evolve. It anticipates an era (we also saw it with the diagnostic “cabins”. already developed in the USA) in which routine checks are no longer confined to the walls of a doctor's office, but are accessible, rapid and complete, directly from the living room at home.
