Make way at tiny house (not even very tiny) foldable, the new frontier of living! One of these, Iwi, caught my attention: now I'll tell you why this "accordion" seemed special to me.
For those who play the accordion
Born from the minds of two Ecuadorian designers, Iwi is simply fantastic. The main feature of this micro-cabin is the folding "bellows" mechanism which allows you to create a whole new area of the house in a few seconds, when needed.
The trick is to compress and uncompress two modules (one front and one back) connected to each other with fabrics, creating a structure similar to that of an accordion.
Iwi design and features
The duo of architects Juan Ruiz e Amelia Tapia, they thought from the beginning to Iwi as a structure that could be folded and stored when not needed. Once fully extended, it offers 9 square meters of space, while closed it reduces to just 2 square meters. Thanks to the wheels, it is really very easy to open and close.
Made of cypress wood and plywood, Iwi has double-glazed doors that allow sunlight to enter. Cork and sheep's wool insulation optimizes the temperature. Inside, there is a desk, two chairs, space for a printer and a kitchenette with a hidden sink.
Extremely versatile
Imagine having an expandable cabin like Iwi at your disposal: if you need more space to accommodate friends, voilà. If you're looking for a quiet home office, voila. If you arrange one of these things on the terrace or in the garden, the possibilities are truly endless.
Iwi teaches us that life is just like her: we can compress it or expand it, it's up to us. Next time you feel cramped in your space, remember you might have a secret accordion ready to play a tune of freedom :)
