Moving around in confined spaces requires a fast and agile vehicle that can be stowed away when not in use. A city bike or, better yet, a scooter is the best option for an urban lifestyle. Even better if it is essential, simple and comfortable means.
What if we put them together? A 'shape-shifting' vehicle capable of becoming an electric bike or a scooter depending on the need? Explore the city or go around the block without using different means, but transforming only one. That's the goal of Popup Scooter.

Popup Scooter, a city 'Transformer'
I'm a huge fan of shape-shifting vehicle designs, and I have to say this really amazed me. The Popup Scooter is a two-wheeled electric bicycle that turns into a scooter and vice versa: in this way users can choose the configuration that best suits them.
The transformation of the medium (designed by the studio Ugly ducking) is simple. It happens thanks to the cylinder that in normal bikes is used to adjust the ride height. This hydraulic mechanism is able to hold (and lift) an adult person, so changing the configuration of the Popup Scooter does not seem to be a problem.
This concept it is not just yet another project that only sparkles on paper, but it presents an interesting series of solutions that can be integrated into a model in production.

Betting everything on personal commuting
The future, according to the designers, will be dominated by individual micro-mobility. For this versatility and adaptability will be priceless characteristics.
The Popup Scooter has the ability to satisfy everyone's needs, because it can become a sort of 'new standard': a 3 (or 2) wheeled vehicle that seems to come out of nowhere, but could enter the collective imagination.
The future, apparently, must know how to change its skin.
