The alarm comes directly from the United States, from Tobias Boelter, senior researcher in cryptography and security at Berkeley University, California. In fact, it seems that there is a backdoor that undermines the security of all WhatsApp conversations and that lends its side to government agencies, hackers and cyber spies. The backdoor, it seems, would be used to allow access to Facebook for all chats. A vulnerability that affects over a billion people around the world.
On April 5, 2016, the leaders of WhatsApp announced the introduction of the end to end encryption, which was supposed to make all of our chats safer. An important and long-awaited step, which apparently was not enough. The backdoor that was discovered in these hours would allow Facebook to intercept and read the messages exchanged by users, without any legal consent. A very serious fact: still no comments from WhatsApp.
