Il #energy consumption of the #computer it is constantly increasing, and with the Internet "of things" the phenomenon will only get worse. Consumption is projected to even exceed global energy production around 2040.

This estimate, recently reported by the Daily Mail, is the result of research by the Semiconductor Industry Association. The reason for this consumption without brakes? The future ubiquity of the processors, but also the fact that, thanks to the progress of the miniaturization of the components, today more transistors can be inserted in a chip, and these require more interconnections.

However, a solution is already being considered, focusing on new materials and micro-architectures to lower consumption. In short, we want to have more and more systems capable of converting movement or body heat into current.
