Fresh from approval by the US health authorities, a new laser application could become the next winning weapon in removing unwanted fat.
Osyris Medical, an American company specializing in medical instruments, has produced LipoControl, a device for laser-assisted lipolysis, the elimination of unwanted fat cells: it is an auxiliary tool that does not avoid the use of the operating room, but allows (unlike the cannula used in liposuction) to 'break down' targeted groups of fat cells, facilitating the operation and cleaning of the wound.
The 'futuristic' element of the system is represented by a sort of energy map that assists the surgeon in identifying and treating fat cells with extreme precision: the doctor knows exactly the amount of energy released by the laser in a point. It's like watching a liposuction from inside the body and not from the outside, just to get an idea.
The 'chisel of light' is therefore the most serious candidate among the tools that will be responsible for sculpting our body in the near future, with particular attention to love handles, hips, abdomen, underarm, buttocks, inner thighs and chin: nothing to do with a healthy diet and a bit of physical activity, but at least even those who maintain unsuitable lifestyles will have the possibility of knowing a future far from the blemishes of obesity.
