More than 8 years have passed since the release of the first augmented reality headset, of the modern age that is. In fact, the Oculus Rift, created by a small start up called Oculus VR, was launched on the market on March 28, 2016, although it had already been announced in 2012. Since then, many things have changed and many giants of the hi-tech industry have thrown themselves into this sector.
Among the first, certainly Mark Zuckerberg, the owner of Facebook and Meta, who bought Oculus Vr, but not only. Even the Japanese giant Sony has invested in this sector by presenting its own visor. The latter, today, work shoulder to shoulder with Apple, who would have ever said, precisely to create, and subsequently market, visors for augmented reality.
At the moment they are busy developing VR hardware.
Augmented Reality: A Gamble?
Of course, nowadays everyone knows the meaning of visor, augmented reality and what it refers to. By now they are terms so used and inflated that the vast majority of people know them, as the greatest will surely know. famous slot titles. Also because the term visor was not invented by Oculus VR, but it is a technology that man has been experimenting with since 1968.
In fact, when we talk about visors and augmented reality and refer to them as a “challenge of the future,” we should realize that it is rather a challenge of the past. In fact, we have already been talking about it and experimenting with it since the 60s. In that decade alone, there were 4.
Of course, they had nothing to do with today's models, nor did they have the same capabilities that today's models have. Today, in fact, it is possible to easily play and take advantage of a varied choice of titles to play.
Of course there is not a wide choice like for classic peripherals, PC or console, but there is still material to have fun. Moreover, for some time now companies have been trying to lower prices and make VR viewers available to everyone.
Sony and Apple together?
Strange to say but it's true: Apple and Sony have decided to collaborate. Together they want to advance the augmented reality project by improving the technology of visors and peripherals. Both have launched at least one visor on the market and therefore have the knowledge to be able to revive this sector. The models in question are:
- The Apple Vision Pro, released in 2023;
- Sony Playstation VR, 2016, and VR2, in 2023.
The hi-tech world is naturally interested in this ambitious project more than ever. In fact, seeing these two companies collaborating can only give us hope, especially after the enormous strides that Apple has made in the world of processors. Since it launched the M series based on ARM architecture, has revolutionized the market exponentially.
Sony, for its part, is not new to experimenting with technologies, but above all it knows how to market. Sony's goal will certainly be to create a product that can give players the right gaming feeling, but above all it will be able to market at a fair price. As many know, for several years the gaming sector has been suffering from strong inflation with skyrocketing prices and components that are difficult to find.
An interesting project
The Sony/Apple duo has the difficult task of demonstrating that the VR sector can grow and be competitive. Two large companies will work to ensure that these products can achieve the right diffusion by eliminating all the technical flaws, from motion sickness to the limited title pool.
Perhaps the Apple side will be able to take the use of VR outside the gaming world, having this technology the possibility of being applied in many fields. Which ones and how? These are questions whose answer will come, but with time.
