Think about your bathroom mirror. Now imagine it enhanced with artificial intelligence, advanced sensors and the ability to monitor your health. You don't have to imagine it: al CES 2025 la Withings is preparing to present Omnia, a device that promises to transform an everyday object into an advanced health monitoring system.
Withings Omnia, an ecosystem for well-being
What fascinates me about Withings Omnia is how it transforms an object we use daily into a sophisticated health monitoring center. It is not just a smart mirror (prototypes have been circulating for some time, but the technology never took off): it is the heart of an entire ecosystem that collects and analyzes our vital data.
The basis on which it is positioned is a concentration of technology. It measures weight, of course, but it goes much further: it monitors cardiac and metabolic health. It is impressive to think that while we look at ourselves in the mirror, a series of sensors are evaluating our general state of health.
And it doesn't stop there. Withings Omnia integrates with other devices from the company, creating what we might call a true home medical office. A holistic approach (let's say…) to health monitoring which I find particularly innovative.
Technology that looks inside us
I was particularly impressed by the ability of this mirror to perform specific tests. Not only does it measure heart rate and blood pressure, but it can also perform an ECG (electrocardiogram) and detect signs of atrial fibrillation.
When paired with other synced devices, Withings Omnia provides a complete picture of your heart health. From sleep tracking to post-workout recovery to VO2 max measurement, everything is analyzed and presented in an understandable way.
I find it particularly interesting how this technology can democratize access to certain types of medical monitoring, bringing them directly into our homes. Of course, I remain perplexed about the accuracy of the readings, especially the ECG: are we sure that it can do it by itself? I'll tell you later.
The AI assistant that advises us
Come widely expected, Omnia is among the devices that arrive on the market already “equipped” with its integrated AI voice assistant. Withings calls it “AI Vocal Companion”, and it goes beyond simple data collection. It can provide personalized advice based on the parameters detected, suggesting for example to book a doctor's visit or to increase daily physical activity.
I like the idea of being able to ask questions about your health and get immediate answers. However, it remains to be seen what data this AI was trained on and what its margin of error is. Eric Carreel, founder of Withings, calls it “a monumental step in health technology,” but its reliability will be crucial to evaluate.
The fact that some AI features will start appearing in the Withings app this year seems like a good sign to me: we will be able to gradually test this new technology.
Withings Omnia, the future in the mirror
The Withings Omnia is currently in development and has not yet been announced for price or release date. Given Withings’ track record of launching innovative products, I am optimistic that this smart mirror will become a reality.
But I wonder what the implications will be of having such a sophisticated device in our bathroom. On the one hand, it could revolutionize home health prevention. On the other hand, we must always consider (excuse me if I care) the aspects related to privacy and security of health data.
The transformation of personal health promised by Withings seems within reach, but as always with new technologies, finding the right balance between innovation and user protection will be essential.
