When architecture, sport and nature meet, extraordinary works are born. This is the case of Annette K, the floating pool that is about to transform the face of the Seine. A bold project that takes the swimming experience to a level never seen before, right in the beating heart of Paris. And yes, they said it: the Seine would have been swimmable. I wasn't expecting that, though. Shall we dive?

Annette K: the floating pool that revolutionises the Seine
The Parisian architecture firm Seine Design has unveiled a project that promises to redefine the urban and sporting landscape of the French capital. Annette K is much more than a floating swimming pool: it is a real multipurpose center dedicated to sport, health and well-being, ready to navigate the waters of the Seine in view of the 2024 Olympics.
Annette K's concept is inspired by Nordic aesthetics, with a minimalist and natural style. And it's not a random choice at all:
The Nordic pool concept, characterized by its natural aesthetic and minimalist style, enhances the feeling of being outdoors, allowing swimming in the rain or during cold winter nights, with minimal enclosed spaces on the roof terrace.
This design philosophy creates a unique experience where the line between inside and outside blurs, and offers visitors an intimate connection with their surroundings.

Technology and sustainability at the service of sport
The heart of the Annette K floating pool is the stainless steel structure, which performs a double function:
- It houses the Olympic-sized swimming pool;
- It supports the bridge's infrastructure with spider-like legs, which handle the electrical and hydraulic systems.
An ingenious solution, which frees up space for various activities throughout the day by eliminating the need for false ceilings or raised floors. The pool heating system also effectively heats the spaces on the lower decks, ensuring comfort and sustainability.

360 degree experience
Other "devils" of the floating pool? You wouldn't imagine them. That's why I'm telling you. So, in no particular order: a running track that surrounds the terrace level, offering a 360° view of the surrounding environment. A coffee shop, a restaurant. A spa, a small physiotherapy centre. What's missing, apart from the two unicorns?
This variety of services transforms Annette K into a real hub of well-being and sociability, active from dawn to dusk. And it's accessible too! I read from the presentation:
Special attention is paid to accessibility for all forms of disabilities, ensuring inclusive experiences in all facilities.
I reserve the right to evaluate this aspect better, however, since it doesn't seem well represented to me.

A floating swimming pool that interacts with water and light
Built with wood, steel and glass, Annette K's structure echoes the aesthetics of shipbuilding. This choice not only pays homage to its floating nature, but also creates a visual and conceptual link to the rich maritime history of the Seine and Paris.
Aquatic elements are carefully incorporated into Annette K's design. Portholes allow natural light to penetrate the building, while reflections from the Seine create visual effects reminiscent of Impressionist paintings. This fusion of architecture and nature creates a unique visual and sensory experience for visitors.
The floating pool will become a visual and functional landmark, redefining the relationship between the city and its historic river.
Towards the 2024 Olympics and beyond
As Paris prepares to host the 2024 Olympic Games, Annette K positions herself as a symbol of the city's innovation and ambition. The floating pool will not only provide a state-of-the-art facility for Olympic athletes, but will also leave a lasting legacy for the citizens and visitors of Paris.
A new chapter in the history of the Seine
From commercial artery to tourist attraction, the river has always played a central role in the life of Paris. Now, with this floating pool, it reinvents itself once again as a space for sport, well-being and architectural innovation.
Annette K is the poster child for what is possible when vision, technology and respect for the environment come together. As it navigates the waters of the Seine, this new project brings with it the promise of a future in which our cities are not just places to live in, but living spaces that adapt, evolve and surprise us. A pleasure.
