A bag, an air vent and in 15 minutes your personal electric quadricycle is ready. No, it's not a joke, but the incredible concept of AirNAM, an inflatable vehicle designed for short trips around the city and aims to become the favorite vehicle of commuters and tourists. Okay, you have my attention.
An inflatable idea born on the beach
But how was this bizarre invention born? It all started in Mexico, where the inventor of this contraption, the 47-year-old Benoît Payard, built his first prototype using an inflatable beach lounger and a yoga mat. The target? Creating a vehicle that is environmentally friendly and, above all, tremendously fun to drive.
And judging by the reactions of those who observe it, it seems that he has succeeded.
Small but snappy
Don't be fooled by AirNAM's compact size: thanks to integrated solar panels and electric batteries, this mini-car can reach a speed of 45 km/h. I doubt it will hold up to long distances (hey, get the autonomy data out!). Its inventor, however, declares that it is more than sufficient to move easily in city traffic. And with the possibility of hosting a passenger, you can also enjoy a romantic ride for two through the streets of the centre.
But will an inflatable toy car be safe? Don't worry: even if it doesn't have traditional suspensions, AirNAM uses the shock-absorbing properties of its inflatable elements to absorb shocks and roughness in the road surface. Seat belts and rear-view mirrors will be available as options, for those who really don't want to give up the comforts of traditional electric quadricycles.
When will we be able to get our hands (and butts) on this inflatable "air" quadricycle?
According to Payard, AirNAM will initially be marketed to tourism professionals, such as amusement parks, campgrounds and resorts. The launch for private individuals is scheduled for the summer of 2025, with a list price of 10.000 euros. The inventor hopes to lower production costs to bring the price around 3.000 euros. In the meantime he authorizes all the detractors of electric to say the worst things about simply scandalous figures.
In any case, among the pluses of AirNAM is that, being classified as a bicycle, it can be driven by anyone, without the need for a license or insurance. No more excuses for not going for a ride in the park or for not accompanying grandma to the market. And with its ability to fold into a convenient bag, you can take it anywhere from camping to sailing. The only limit will be your imagination.
Ready to inflate the tires?
Unworthy price aside, AirNAM promises to be one of the most original and fun vehicles of recent years.
Get your pumps ready: 4 years after the Poimo ebike (also in that case great curiosity) inflatable mobility could even give us a car. Or explode, for the umpteenth time.
