Future autonomous vehicles promise to let us travel far and wide without having to drive, and the Vanlife could be the answer to those prayers. GAC extension Advanced Design Studio Milan has imagined a revolutionary autonomous camper that will go on its own on any type of terrain, taking passengers on the adventures they desire, while they relax or sleep in the hammock on board.
A new era for motorhome
Il Vanlife It is the second vehicle in GAC's “Car Culture” series, following last year's Barchetta. This time the design team wanted to explore the world of campers, a culture that has its roots in the past but is still very current.
The concept imagines how motorhome design could evolve in the advanced future, with a autonomous driving level 5, solid-state batteries and compact, aerodynamic bodywork for efficient use of energy.
Independent adventures on and off the road
Vanlife is not limited to autonomy on some highways, but is capable of going on any type of road or terrain. The autonomous navigation system integrates GPS data with a sidereal position mapping system, ensuring self-guiding for adventures even in remote environments.
The wheels are equipped with tyres airless, with tread suitable for any type of surface.
When will we see such vehicles around?
With Vanlife taking care of the driving and navigation, passengers can enjoy the ride, admiring the view through the large windows and glass roof, resting in the internal hammock or engaging in favorite activities.
Presented during Milan Design Week, the Vanlife is not intended for production, but represents an interesting exercise in the imagination of how automotive technologies could improve the experience of campers in the future.
