How much food wasted in the world in the year 2019? Can you guess or do I tell you? I'll tell you, come on. One billion tons. More than 60% from families, in homes. This is a gigantic problem that unbalances economies, cultures and entire countries.
Why does this happen? Simple. Air. Air carries microbes, microbes spoil food. Cool the air and the microbes will take longer (that's why we put things in the fridge). Remove the air with the vacuum, and you will slow down again. Less air equals fewer microbes.
The Turkish designer Gokhan Cetinkaya has seen fit to create a device that combines two different technologies: UV-C rays and vacuum: and a completely new appliance was born. How could I call it? The food "enhancer"?
What Aurora does
I put it very simple: Aurora doubles the duration of each food. To be precise, increases it by 97%, with peaks of 141% for fruit. It won't solve the world waste problem, of course. But it will play its part in the home, taking home storage systems another quantum leap.
Small parenthesis: one day companies will integrate everything in a refrigerator: cold, vacuum and UV-C. That will be a good day.
Aurora is a "transit" device: you fill one of its containers, put it in the device to process it, receive a vacuum and UV-C treatment (about 30 seconds), then you can put the container in the fridge as usual. When it is time to insert the food into the device, record the usage and Aurora "remembers" how long the food will last, notifying you on the inevitable companion app, to be downloaded on your mobile.

Meat? Fruit? Dairy products? (The latter never in the fridge, please! I live in Naples, don't do this to me with mozzarella) Whatever the food, Aurora will warn us when it is about to expire: the combination of conservation plus reminder minimizes waste.
