Elon Musk's desire to create a new social media is certainly no secret: this theory has been circulating on the web for months, and the latest updates seem to confirm it.
The multibillionaire entrepreneur who owns the Tesla brand (and Neuralink, And Boring company etc.) has recently published a tweet in which he states that he is “seriously thinking about building a new social platform”. In his tweet, Musk responded to questions from some users who were interested in the possibility of creating a new social media.
How did it go?
One user, in particular, had asked Musk if he was willing to create a platform based on an open source algorithm; while a second user questioned the entrepreneur on the possibility of keeping freedom of speech intact.
Musk responded by saying that his goal (should the project be completed) is to create a space that gives users "all the freedom of speech" they deserve.
A social media that ensures free speech?
Elon Musk is known for his "consistent" presence on the Twitter platform. He has never denied that he appreciates the social network, but he has doubts about the policies implemented by Twitter in recent times. Above all, he believes that social media is undermining democracy, without respecting the principles of free speech.
A few days ago he posted a tweet on his profile, a survey asking users if they think Twitter adheres to the principle of free speech.
Apparently, over 70% of users voted “no”, fueling Mask's intention to create a new social media.
The consequences of this survey will be important. Please vote carefully.
This is the phrase that accompanied the tweet, and that started speculation about the creation of the new social media.
If Musk were to decide to proceed, he would have access to a huge audience. Many users, in fact, feel that their freedom of speech has been silenced by the platforms and feel the need to express themselves. No other company has managed to reach the levels of Twitter and Facebook, but Elon Mask's power may be more than enough.
