How many times have we wondered if a helmet could have a more compact shape when not needed? Saving our lives is essential, but when things are ok the precious object becomes rather cumbersome. It would be nice if you could “flatten” a helmet for easy storage in a backpack. Simpler life, there's no doubt: but equally safe?
The use of a safety helmet has become standard practice for a variety of activities. Not just cyclists and motorcyclists: workers and rescue workers at disaster sites are also in great need of it. However, this gadgets lifesaving is not always necessary and takes up quite a bit of space: a "foldable" helmet is exactly the ideal solution.
Put your helmet in your backpack
Thus enters the scene a minimalist helmet that preserves all the peculiar aspects of safety without sacrificing the shape or even the design. The function is perfectly integrated, and the practicality makes this object much more usable (and potentially used) in many fields and situations of need.
Designed by R&D Mak based in Tokyo, the intuitive design of this foldable helmet turns it into a flat object (kind of like those flat-pack furniture from IKEA). Once "closed", the object is small enough to fit easily in a cabinet. What am I saying, in a drawer. Its opening and closing mechanism is the simplest I've ever seen: you press a button, pull a cord and voilà, you're done.
And to put it another way that motorcyclists like, with this structure two helmets can be kept in the same space now occupied by a single helmet. If it doesn't work with security, let's try comfort.
