It is the main ingredient often used in perfumes. It's called ethanol, it's obtained from the fermentation and distillation of grain, and it burns a lot of resources. Water, land, fuel emissions and fertilizers, to name a few.
air company has reworked this process to produce ethanol and perfume that require none of this. Ladies and gentlemen, the first carbon-negative perfumes on the planet. They remove CO2 from the atmosphere and place it in a bottle.
Air de Parfum
The startup collects CO2 from nearby facilities that produce “traditional” ethanol and combines it with hydrogen. Its technology “mimics” photosynthesis, using carbon dioxide from the air and natural solar energy to produce the solution. Everything runs on renewable electricity.
Not just perfume, however: on the contrary. Eau de parfum is the third product derived from Air Company's proprietary technology. The company used the same CO2 capture method to produce vodka and hand sanitizer (at the beginning of the pandemic).
“Our concept was inspired by rethinking the way we interact with fragrances,” he says Gregory Constantine, co-founder and CEO of Air Company, in a press release. “We have innovated every aspect of the sensory experience to offer a perfume with elegant packaging to demonstrate what is possible for the future in sustainable innovation. The perfume was inspired by the elements of nature: air, water and sun. After a year spent indoors during the pandemic, we wanted to help people feel reconnected to the environment.” And therefore CO2 perfume. In a way it fits.
Any data on the perfume?
Staying practical, the scent "in the air" It has a “fresh and citrusy” character, I read, “with fig leaves and orange peel as top notes and heart notes of jasmine, violet and sweet water. Finally, musk and tobacco make up its base notes.”. OK.
As of last Wednesday, Air Eau de Parfum is available for pre-order at the price of (hold on tight) 200 euros ($220) for a 50 ml bottle. Orders will ship early next year. There CO2 capture it becomes fashion, in short.
