KitoTech raises funds for its devices, special patches that allow a do-it-yourself suture without resorting to surgery

I'm pretty sure you've never heard of KitoTech Medical, a Seattle-based medical device company, but you've probably passed a video of one of its products, because it went viral.

MicroMend, this is the name of the product, is a patch that has the strength of a stitch: it allows a do-it-yourself suture without resorting to surgery.

“MicroMend is a unique new alternative to common sutures, staples, surgical glues and adhesive strips to close the skin surface and subsequently protect the incision site. The product has the shape of a butterfly bandage with tiny micro clips that anchor the device to the skin with a holding force equivalent to that of the stitches ”. This is what we read on the site by KitoTech.

According to the company, MicroMend products have been shown to close wounds much faster than sutures. While it may seem like a very useful practical product, the company has failed to offer it to hospitals and medical clinics due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This is why the company decided at some point to change technique and address consumers directly. Since then, the results have been "remarkable", said the CEO of KitoTech Ron Berenson. The company raised a whopping $ 3 million in funding to support its growth.

Who is KitoTech aimed at?

The target audience for KiToTech are people who have suffered injuries but don't want to undergo a procedure they perceive as painful. Moreover, these days, many fear going to hospital due to Covid-19. As you can imagine, both types of customers are part of a huge and ever-growing pool.

That's why the company moved from hospitals to the general public, and started selling MicroMend on Amazon directly to consumers. Offering a DIY suture without surgery was the winning move, and on August 13 the company also announced the addition of a new product: the MicroMend WIDE.

Think big

The product features the same overall design as other MicroMend products, but is three times wider.

This makes it much easier and faster to close larger wounds. With the addition of the WIDE device, the KitoTech portfolio now includes five different microMend products that provide the ability to safely and quickly close almost any wound regardless of size and shape.
