The police robot that stops you like real agents

A robotics researcher has produced in the garage of his home (as in the old days) a police robot capable of carrying out road stop operations.

Being stopped by a policeman in the USA may not be a pleasant experience. We have had news many times of delicate situations and then ended well, but everything does not always go smoothly.

Second Reuben Brewer, senior engineer of robotics research in the applied technology and science department of SRI International (ATSD) and the "dad" of the police robot, a detention can even become traumatic or dangerous.

They don't seem so peregrine affirmations.

from video description: “16.915.140 vehicle drivers are stopped in traffic every year. 195.078 motorists report that physical force was used on them and 4.488 police officers are attacked. 89 of these motorists die and 11 of those officers die. "

For this reason, to avoid such disastrous consequences, Brewer has invented a “Robocop” that cannot do or harm itself. “Our police robot will be able to go among people to protect everyone,” Brewer added.

This police robot is not an autonomous android, but more an "offshoot" of the agent, who stays in the car and communicates through this through cybernetics. The agent's face is shown on the screen positioned at the height of the Robocop's “face”, who can communicate with the driver via cameras and speakers. The telescopic robotic arm can collect documents and bring them to the attention of the terminal.

On balance, if the job was only to stop a driver and impose a penalty or read documents, there is nothing that this police robot could not do like a real agent. Funny to think it all started in Brewer's garage. It reminds me of something.

Brewer now has big plans for his cop robot.

“This police robot prototype is a work in progress that I started in my garage, and now I work at SRI International. Of course, it represents only part of the solution to the problem of violence in situations like this, But I hope that one day it will save lives ", he concludes.
