It seems that water is not the most thirst-quenching drink: it confirms it a study by researchers at the Scottish University of St. Andrews.
When it's really hot and you're thirsty, the most thirst-quenching drink is water. Yeah, there is nothing better thanwater, no? Of all the thirst-quenching drinks it is the best. Or not? OR NOT? Ready?
No. Errata. There is something better: for example drinks with a little fat, protein or sugar, but NOT too much.
Disclaimer: I could have called this post "how to quench your thirst" and make a bunch of extra visits. But all tastes are tastes, and I don't want to override anyone's, especially when it comes to fresh drinks. But grasp the scientific fact, and experiment. Then let me know :)
For example milk
In defining the most thirst-quenching drink, the talented researchers have practically traced the portrait of milk, and it is no coincidence that they cite the drink in their research. Milk contains a sugar, lactose, protein and fat. Their coexistence slows down the emptying of fluid from the stomach, preserving hydration and the same sensation of being quenched for longer.
Milk is the perfect thirst-quenching drink because it also has a percentage of sodium, which acts like a sponge favoring water retention and less urine production.
The same mechanism of the refreshing drink intervenes in the products we take to rehydrate in case of dysentery: liquids containing sugar, sodium and potassium stop the "bleeding" of liquids.
All very nice, refreshing and fresh drinks as you like, but the water is more inclusive: it's also good for vegans. And let's face it: it has been a long time since there have been fountains that give milk around.
Hall of Fame, indeed thirst.
And now, for fans of the rankings, the fresh ranking of the 12 most thirst-quenching drinks (able to maintain greater hydration in the 4 hours following intake), take this into account to quench your thirst on hot summer days:
- Skimmed milk

Who would have thought. She made me thirsty!
Thirst-quenching water? Nope, do one thing. Bring me a really refreshing drink. Bring me a lot of "garganella" milk.
