An accidental discovery can repair the reef 25 times faster

The "micro-fragmentation" would allow corals to restore the habitat of the underwater fauna.

David Vaughan works on Florida's coral reef stretch, the third longest in the world and one of the most important ecosystems that supports marine life.

Together with a team of scientists he works to combat the destruction of the world's coral reefs (in the last 20 years we have lost 40% of corals due to warming and acidification of the oceans' water).

Vaughan has developed a technique called "micro-fragmentation" that allows corals to grow 25 times faster and restore the habitat of underwater fauna.

Here is a video that illustrates the process and the hope that it can help quickly restore the environmental damage suffered by the ecosystem.
