As every year, # Facebook provided the "trending topics" of the last 12 months, i.e. the hot topics that were most talked about on social media. Given that there are now millions of Italians who connect to their Facebook profile every day, it is obvious that the social network is a fairly faithful mirror of the thoughts and concerns of Italians.
So what are the Italians talking about on Facebook? The top ten topics from the Facebook Year Review 2016 they contain everything from Europeans to Brexit, through Pokémon Go, Valentine's Day, the disappearance of David Bowie and Bud Spencer. Obviously, the reference to the earthquake is not lacking, indeed to the various earthquake shocks that devastated central Italy.
Sport is certainly one of the most discussed topics, also thanks to the arrival of the Olympics. However, Italians are also attentive to politics: there were the American elections, the Italian ones and the Brexit decision. Valentine's Day, it seems, is always a very heartfelt theme.
