The future gives us, in relation to the theme of 'Christmas holidays', at least two positive certainties.
The first certainty: barring major upheavals in the short term, Christmas will be celebrated as always for many years to come. Among the social changes observable by going back through the timeline, those relating to "ritual" celebrations are the hardest to change: they often change the origin (for example, a celebration born for religious reasons will be converted into a 'pagan' celebration or vice versa ) but the date and the revelry remain.
The second certainty is that many animal species that are threatened with extinction today will save themselves and return to repopulate this planet.
You will tell me: what does this second prediction have to do with the Christmas holidays?
There is a connection:
Like every year, for Christmas the WWF offers you the opportunity to give something really important to friends and relatives: the adoptions of an animal species and its entire natural habitat. There are 13 species at risk in the world 'under the lens' of the WWF: panda, brown bear, polar bear, seal, penguin, dolphin, wolf, tiger, gorilla, elephant, cheetah, lion, orangutan. They can all be adopted and helped to win their battle against the entropic (and human) factors that put them at risk.
What does the gift include
If you decide to give or treat yourself to an adoption (starting from €30) you will receive a letter from Fulco Pratesi (WWF Pres.), a card showing the characteristics of the species to be saved, its habitat and what threats it faces, a personalized certificate valid for one year, the world map with the indication of adoptions.
If some friend always prefers a bit of "fat" next to a gift and is not satisfied with saving the world, you can choose the gift "with plush” (with €20 more, which doesn't even cover the value of the stuffed animal): alongside other things, a splendid soft “mascot” of your chosen species will make your gift more 'objective'.
If, on the contrary, you are among those who pay attention to the matter and do not like to consume too much paper (for the benefit of the forests), choose adoption in digital: lots of extra content for your mobile devices and a letter from Pratesi in an email version :)
The power of the trio
For adoptions of WWF Christmas 2012 it is also possible to make a donation (a little more expensive, €125) to save 'groups' of protected species, the trios. In this way it is possible to allocate your gift to a 'transversal' intervention on various species sharing the same habitat. For example, the polar trio (seal, penguin, polar bear), Asian trio (panda, tiger, orangutan) and others. It is impressive to consider how some species (I am thinking of the lion) are at the top of the food chain and in any case threatened with extinction: the real threat, in their case, is man.
HOW TO DO
- On the page wwf.it/adozioni find the 13 species available;
- Choose the type of adoption: with or without plush, digital or "i WWF You" to dedicate to those you love;
- Define if it is a gift for you or others;
- Make the donation;
However you decide to take action, share this initiative on social networks, and do it quickly: by December 20, fast shipments will be assured that will ensure the gift by Christmas. The shipping cost is free (I correct: it is paid by the WWF, better specify). Get busy, the world won't wait for anyone :)
