The Christmas holidays are coming and as always the world is divided: I am not talking about wars and physical or ideological conflicts, I am referring to the division between those who spend this period looking for more time to spend with their loved ones, and those who take the opportunity to shopping and grabbing any item, once again, seamlessly.
What do we really need?
Time passes quickly: a century ago Christmas it was completely different (even Santa Claus, before the advent of Coca-Cola, was dressed in green), and everything suggests that in the future this holiday will be 'reinterpreted' again. It's also about time: how many times have we loaded a pack of gifts useless to bring to bored relatives and friends, wasting our money?
Oxfam Italy it gives us the opportunity to 'redeem ourselves' by doing gift to the people we love by participating in a small important gesture that can save someone's life.
It is a humanitarian association that is part of a large social group (15 organizations that develop their projects in almost 100 countries around the world to fight poverty and improve the living conditions of millions of people): through the activation of utilities and the supply of useful materials, people can be given the chance to raise themselves and build a (it must be said) more beautiful and just future.
Oxfam bring food, water and hygiene. It ensures an income for farmers and artisans in many depressed areas, helping them in the production and sale of their products. It presses as a critical mass on governments and institutions around the world to improve the living and working conditions of the weakest groups, those who, by staying outside of industrial processes, help global development without burdening the environment.
And what do you do? Still there with yet another perfume for your aunt?
From our website www.glispacchurati.it you will find a catalog of gifts absolutely sui generis: have you ever given a goat to a friend? Today you can do it.
Also choose a gift from those offered: your friend or relative will receive an e-card that will inform him of the gift of one of the unpacked, while the gift will go to a person who really needs it. A goat, a pack donkey, a dairy cow. A hen for eggs, notebooks to write, a well to get water, a medical kit: developing countries have a very strong need for such objects and actions, participating with your loved ones in a small change will restore meaning to a Christmas has now become a consumer product like any other.
Another 'flaw' of 'disposable' Christmas: all the good things end with the holidays. Gifts, affection, kindness. It's all over on the 27th. Silly, right? Yet we always need love: if we don't give away just any sweater or an accessory, and we allow ourselves to help someone, oxfam will update us through the web (e Facebook) on the status of the projects we have funded.
These are gifts that are worth the effort, that make the difference: gifts that I would also like to find in Christmas Future, whatever it is.
